P ower of attorney (POA) or letter of attorney is a written authorization to represent or act on another's behalf in private affairs, business, or some other legal matter, sometimes against the wishes of the other.
In real estate transactions, the person given the Power of Attorney to has the legal authorization to attend and sign at closing on your behalf. It is recommended to put a timeframe with an end date on the POA. A power of attorney provides convenience for real estate closings because it allows you to complete transactions without requiring your presence. For example, your real estate agent who receives POA from you can attend your closing while you are out of town.
